چکیده

Human activity is one of the main causes of the physical, chemical and biological degradation of soils. This degradation implies a change in soil quality as it involves both a decrease in productivity and changes in the ecological functions of the soil. The objective of the present study was to investigate the effect of soil use on soil biochemical properties, with the aim of providing data that allow assessment of the usefulness of enzymatic activities as indicators of soil quality. In addition to physical and chemical properties, different hydrolase enzymes involved in the C, N, P and S cycles, and other biochemical properties, such as the microbial biomass C and soil basal respiration, were analysed. The results obtained allowed different conclusions to be reached regarding the main processes involving the biochemical properties in soils affected by human activity. *The present study is a summary of a wider paper to be Publisher in Soil Biology and Biochemistry. This was presented as a Keynote to the 3 rd International Conference on Soil Enzymes (Viterbo, Italy), 15-19 july 2007 and, partly, as a invited Conference to the Segundo Simposio Internacional: Suelo, Ecología y Medioambiente (Temuco, Chile), 8-9 noviembre 2007. Production and characterization of biochemical properties of L-Asparaginase by indigenous yeast isolated from soil of Iran

Introduction: The use of L-asparaginase as a chemotherapeutic agent is an effective strategy for the treatment of leukemic lymphoblasts. Since the use of bacterial L-asparaginase causes side effects due to hypersensitivity reactions, search for new enzyme sources is one of the active research areas. In this study, the characterization of produced L-asparaginase by indigenous yeast strains was i...

Effects of soil conductivity on properties of saffron corms and in vitro production of its style explants

Saffron is the dried stigmas of Crocus sativus L., a member of the Iridaceae family which ispropagated by means of corms. Corms are faced with many stresses in soil. Therefore, it isimportant to reduce these stresses and improve the quantity of saffron production. Biotic andabiotic stresses disrupt the metabolic balance of cells; thereby, resulting in accumulation ofreactive oxygen species (ROS...

Effect of organic and chemical fertilizers on morpho-physiological and biochemical properties of ajowan (Trachyspermum ammi L.)

Organic fertilizers play a significant role in organic systems and sustainable soil management. In general, organic fertilizers increase soil fertilization so can reduce the negative effects of the excessive use of chemical fertilizers and synthetic man-made fertilizers. This study was carried out in the Medicinal Plants Farm of Shahid Bakeri Higher Education Center of Miandoab during summer 20...

Effect of Rangeland Conversion to Dryland Farming on Soil Chemical Properties (Case study: Kian rangelands, Lorestan, Iran)

Land use change as the most important destructive factor in natural ecosystems is a globally problem that changes soil properties. Therefore, correct management and recognition of change aspects on each component of the ecosystem is necessary. This process causes land destruction, ecosystem instability, soil erosion, and more biological threats. Due to increasing land use conversion from rangel...
